Symptoms of depression
 

The symptoms of the depression are several and depend on many factors, like is the person or the time; also people present some or all symptoms of the depressive phase.

· Feelings of sadness, despair, pessimism, incompetence, self-abstraction and low self-esteem, state anxious or empty in persistent way.
· Feelings of guilt, uselessness and helplessness (social isolation)
· Lost of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities that before are enjoyed, including sexual activity.
· Decrease of energy, fatigue, exhaustion, sensation of being “in slow motion” for weeks or months. Excessive slowness (inertia)
· Difficulty to think, being concentrated, remember and make decisions.
· Changes in the pattern of dreams, insomnia, wake up earlier or sleep too much.
· Lost of weight, appetite or both, or otherwise eat too much and increase of weight.
· Thoughts of death or suicide; attempts of suicide.
· Decrease of the activity, efficiency and productivity of the person.
· Distraction in insignificant events.
· Restlessness, irritability
· Changes in the patterns of feeding, eat too much or too little.
· Persistent physical symptoms that don’t answer the medical treatment, like headaches, digestive disorders, cardiac rhythm, sensation of lost of control of some parts of the body and other chronic pains.
· Ideas or attempts of suicide or death.
· Sensation of being in a “hole” or in a “dead end”


The Depression can be divided in three common types, severe depression, light depression or Dysthymia and bipolar depression. In each one of these three types of depression, the number, the seriousness and the persistence of the symptoms vary.
